Philippines Jeepneys and Tricycles Make Philippine Local Travel
Relatively Fast, Low-Cost, and Always Available
Throughout the Philippines, each local area
has tricycles [small taxicabs powered by a motorcycle] to quickly and
inexpensively take both Filipino residents and visitors from one part of the
local area to another whenever they need to travel locally. A typical fare
per adult [very young children ride free] is 4 to 5 pesos for a very short
trip. Remember that each US dollar is worth approximately 55 pesos. Below is
a photograph of a tricycle in use in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
For faster, low-cost, always available transportation from one area to
another within 10 to 50 kilometers, use a jeepney [photo below]. Typical
jeepney fares would be 10 to 40 pesos, depending on the distance being
traveled. Bus travel is faster than jeepney travel, but jeepneys are still
relatively quick transportation, especially since you don't have to wait
long for the next jeepney departure for your desired destination. You can
hail down a tricycle or jeepney where ever you are, as the vehicles travel
the streets or highways picking up and dropping off riders. |
